All CSK'S were built to UK spec , mine in south africa has the high compression engine , all other 3.9 V8's were low compression engines due to the poor fuel quality here . The four that were sold here are still in existence , probably because we do not have the rust problems as you have in the UK , and here in South Africa a vehicle goes through a roadworthy ( MOT ) process only when the vehicle changes hands . theoretically you can buy a car and drive it forever , How's that ?

Gary - Doesn't really mean anything, we have an Aussie spec Range Rover Sport here in Tz.

CSK025 - I'm based in Northern Tanzania, mostly Arusha.

Hi all,No I am not getting to grips with this.If they were all built to uk spec and given uk vin Nos they were all intended for uk sale and surely distributed to uk dealerships for sale here.So how do brand new vehicles end up in south africa.Cannot belive they would leave the factory direct for export.Did uk dealers send them abroad if they were struggling to find buyers here? I thought all 200 of them started life here. Gary No 43

I would guess bought here then exported, I sold about half a dozen new Land Rovers (mainly Sport) last year that wenbt straight for export.

Hi Jeremy,Yes that sounds more logical.Sold by a third party dealer and not by the factory or its franchised dealerships.I think at the time franchised dealers were strugling to sell them so there was a oppertunity for someone to maybe by them cheap and export them.The factory would not build uk spec cars to sell them abroad they have different specs for different countries.Indeed now they would not be allowed to do it with type approval regs etc,but it may not stop someone else from doing it!!

Hi All, the four CSK's in South Africa were all sold through the dealer network , I spoke to an Ex saleman ,he said four were brought to SA Circ 1992 and sold brand new with a Landrover SA warantee , All the " former colonies " were given some. I traced the lineage of mine to a retired gentleman in Cape town who drove it off the showroom floor , at the time it was more expensive than the S Class Mercedes.Hope that answers all the questions .

I was meaing as a franchise dealer (I work for one), we can happily export, most are just too lazy to do it though (good news for me!)

Indeed, the two in Tanzania were sold by franchised dealers. There are probably a couple in Kenya too.
