Poor man's CSK

Post by cebe »

Hi and Hello from Germany!

Hopefully I'm welcomed here me not having a CSK :)

I'm a Range Rover Classic enthusiast as long as I can remember. Now I'm 27 years old and owning my 13th Range Rover Classic :D

I call her the *poor man's CSK* as it is a 2-door and as well a limited edition of 300 cars, the so-called Range Rover 20th anniversary edition - only available on the French market in 1991.

It has the 2.5TD engine - and mine has covered only 90.000kms (56k mls) yet.

As I drove a RHD '93 Vogue SE before which I'm now breaking for spares, some nice bits have moved into my 2-door, as, for example the leather interior, which I converted to retractable 2-door seats, the auto-dimming mirror as well as the LSE-type 5-spoke wheels (which now are getting a re-spray in body colour and a polish to the outer rims)

As the car is in straight condition throughout, it just needed some optical re-condition and TLC, apart from new springs and shocks and new tyres:

When I bought it:

Very nice :)

This is similar to a project I want to carry out when I've got (lots) of money... that is to create a very top spec soft dash / late hard dash car with heated everything, electric everything and air suspension... all in a 2 door shell!
CSK 109: Genuinely 34K miles, genuinely unrestored, genuinely in need of some TLC.

Thanks :)

Carsten, a guy from Aachen in Germany has built a 2-door soft dash with full spec - but without EAS.
As he told me, it must have been oodles and oodles of work...
result is very very sound, apart from tending to much off road for my taste.

If you're interested, have a look:

Has anybody heard of my limited edition? It's the only car I know of...

Mainly it was an easy job - but very time-consuming to do.
Apart from the tip switch for which a hole has to be cut into the sidewalls nothing needs to be improvised.

Basically it's self-explanatory, but it requires a lot of work. Only to change the upholstery it took me 8 1/2 hours.

I can provide some pictures of the job if you like.

Hi Cebe.

The 2 door looks great. Very classy with the LSE wheels and SE interior.

I have never heard of a 2 door RR in NZ built after mid 1980s (with the exception of the CSK) so its great to see yours.

I understand LR wanted to keep the fact that the RR shape was 20 years old quiet, hence the lack of anniversary models. However, there was a 20th Anniversary model in Switzerland available from July 1990. It was a 4 door automatic available in 2 colours of which 60 examples were built. I got this info from "Range Rover - The First Generation" by James Taylor & Nick Dimbley.

Other than that there is no mention of anniversary models for 1990.

How old were you when your brought your first RR? I was 21.

Hi Cebe,

Your seats look different to mine. I have the original 2 door seats with the seat belt built in and I want to either recover them in Vogue leather or convert a set from a 93 4 door. I am going to weld the 4 door seatbelt anchorage points onto my 2 door shell. I have read your other page but it's not that clear. do you or antbody else have any more details.

Thanks
